Goodwood Festival of Speed

FCA Heritage stars in another international show. The latest rendezvous with classic car enthusiasts is in the UK, at the 25th edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Hillclimbs, themed displays and exhibitions of historic cars and more recently produced racing cars: the Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the biggest dates in the international motoring events calendar. Every year, almost 200,000 fans and collectors from all over the world descend on the Duke of Richmond’s estate to experience the exhilaration of a unique event. The UK’s internationally famous automotive event reaches an important milestone this year: its 25th edition. This is one party that FCA Heritage and Alfa Romeo wouldn’t miss for the world.

Alfa Romeo is treating the fans at the Festival of Speed by displaying two special series for the first time in the UK. The stand will be showcasing the brand new Giulia Quadrifoglio "NRING" and Stelvio Quadrifoglio "NRING". Only 108 each of these two special editions have been produced, which celebrate the link between the Milanese brand and the Nordschleife, the most famous circuit in the Nürburgring complex.

The UK-based show will also host the dynamic UK debut of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. The SUV will star in the iconic Goodwood Hillclimb on Thursday.

But it’s not all about new releases and the latest models, because the Goodwood Festival of Speed is best associated with vintage racing cars. Fans of historic vehicles will be able to see at first hand two prestigious Alfa Romeo models that are on loan from FCA Heritage and normally exhibited at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese.

Built in 1970 and delivering 210 hp for a top speed of 230 km/h, the Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Am is an upgraded competition version of the Giulia Sprint GTA. This model built its formidable reputation on unforgettable successes in the European Touring Car Championship, with the victories of Toine Hezemans at Monza, Budapest and Jarama, Andrea de Adamich and Gian Luigi Picchi at the Nürburgring and Picchi’s win at Zandvoort earning this car a permanent place in the Alfa Romeo Hall of Fame.

Also on the start line of the Goodwood Hillclimb will be the unique Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider, a priceless open-topped version of the model that design studio Bertone built in only four examples (two coupés and two spiders). Made in 1954 by a team under technical designer Giuseppe Busso and central director Orazio Satta Puliga, this model has an engine capable of developing up to 138 hp and reaching a top speed of 220 km/h. The car recently starred in the Mille Miglia with a celebrity driver behind the wheel, namely Guy Berryman, the famous bassist for British band Coldplay.
