This year we are proudly sponsoring the 39th edition of Cesana-Sestriere, one of the leading international events in vintage motorsport. Our very own Lancia Aurelia B20, a model that celebrates the 70th anniversary of its unveiling this year, will star in the Cesana-Sestriere Experience parade.
On the morning of 11 July, following two days of technical checks and official tests, the 39th edition of the Cesana-Sestriere uphill time trial for historic cars will be held by Automobile Club Torino. Established in 1961 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Italy’s unification, the "CE-SE" has since become one of the main international competitions in historic motorsport, counting towards the European and Italian Hill Climb Championships for classic automobiles.
The event, which we are sponsoring, is named after Fiat founder Giovanni Agnelli, also known as L'Avvocato ("The Lawyer"), and will feature over 120 vehicles.
The drivers will compete over a spectacular 10.4 km route that starts from Cesana Torinese at an altitude of 1300 m and climbs to 2035 m in Sestriere, both renowned destinations for alpine tourism.
The race is traditionally accompanied by the Cesana - Sestriere Experience parade and this edition will feature a rare 1951 Lancia Aurelia B20, which belongs to our collection and this year celebrates the 70th anniversary of its unveiling.
The Lancia Aurelia has a close association with Italy's "Olympic mountains", due to its numerous victories in the Sestriere Rally during the 1950s, including those achieved in 1951 by the B10 sedan driven by Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi, and subsequently in 1952 by the B20 coupé, with Gino Valenzano and Mario Poltronieri behind the wheel.
Equipped with the first V6 engine in automotive history, displacing 2000 cc, the Lancia Aurelia B20 was designed by engineer Francesco De Virgilio and is considered the mother of grand tourers.
The model participating in the parade was among the first 90 produced in April 1951 and has an extremely elegant trim, with black bodywork and a grey cloth interior.
