The most beautiful cars of all time will be competing amidst the Austrian Alps in the great Ennstal-Classic event.
During the inaugural edition in 1993, when 35 cars lined up at the start, few people could have foreseen how successful the Ennstal Classic would eventually become.
Today, however, the regularity rally in Gröbming has become a highlight of the classic motoring calendar, attracting celebrity participants such as Walter Röhrl, Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Sebastian Vettel, Rowan Atkinson, Patrick Dempsey and Brian Johnson.
To this date, the singular feature of the event has been the ban on using any kind of electronic equipment in the rally, which follows alpine roads through some of the most stunning locations in Styria. Only period instruments can be used in the race, such as mechanical tripmeters and stop watches.
Among the cars competing in the inaugural edition in 1993 was the Fiat 1100 S, the curvy berlinetta that was so outstanding in the 1947 Mille Miglia. Now FCA Heritage has decided to return to Ennstal with this "sporty car with complicated mechanicals", as it is lovingly described in the model’s dedicated story. Fast and modern for its time, the car racked up numerous track successes in its heyday, proving itself a perfect fit for the Mille Miglia and many other races.
Driving it in the rally will be Rudi Roubinek, the famous Austrian actor with a passion for classic cars, particularly Italian ones, having previously owned a Fiat Cinquecento Sporting and a Fiat Seicento Sporting and currently drives an Abarth 595.
