Like Crazy, a film by Paul Virzì, was recently named best picture at the David di Donatello Awards, Italy's equivalent of the Oscars. The comedy-drama stars Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Micaela Ramazzotti and is produced by Lotus Production, a Leone Film Group company, together with Rai Cinema. The film also won another four Donatello awards, including Best Director for Paolo Virzì and Best Actress for Valeria Bruni Tedeschi.
The red Lancia Appia Convertible is an unforgettable style icon. Made in 1957 by Turin-based coachbuilder Vignale as a competitor to the legendary Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, it eclipses its co-stars right from their very first scene together.
Paolo Virzì’s film tells the story of two desperate women fleeing from life. When they are mistaken for extras on the set of a historical drama, they end up climbing into a beautiful car, the Lancia Appia Convertible, which this year celebrates its 60-year anniversary.
The cameras start rolling as the confused pair look on incredulously from the red convertible, with Micaela Ramazzotti in the driver’s seat. She pulls away on cue, but when she fails to back up for a retake and instead zooms off into the sunset, all eyes are on her scene-stealing co-star, a cabriolet that still captures the imagination of classic car fans and many others besides.
